Microbial Evolution: Regulatory Design Prevents Cancer-like Overgrowths

نویسنده

چکیده

Mutant lineages may cause cancer-like overgrowths in microbial populations. Theory predicts that microbial regulatory controls may be designed to limit the origin and competitive potential of rogue lineages. A new study shows how a Salmonella species protects itself against overgrowths.

The Role of Toll-Like Receptors in Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is highly prevalent worldwide. Treatment of this disease is a major global public health problem; therefore, numerous studies have explored new molecular profile helping for breast cancer therapy. Different risk factors are attributed to breast cancer; however, chronic inflammation and immune regulation are highly essential. Various molecules impact this context, including toll-li...

H∞ Sampled-Data Controller Design for Stochastic Genetic Regulatory Networks

Artificially regulating gene expression is an important step in developing new treatment for system-level disease such as cancer. In this paper, we propose a method to regulate gene expression based on sampled-data measurements of gene products concentrations. Inherent noisy behaviour of Gene regulatory networks are modeled with stochastic nonlinear differential equation. To synthesize feed...

A novel aromatic oil compound inhibits microbial overgrowth on feet: a case study

BACKGROUND Athlete's Foot (Tinea pedis) is a form of ringworm associated with highly contagious yeast-fungi colonies, although they look like bacteria. Foot bacteria overgrowth produces a harmless pungent odor, however, uncontrolled proliferation of yeast-fungi produces small vesicles, fissures, scaling, and maceration with eroded areas between the toes and the plantar surface of the foot, resu...

Structure and evolution of gene regulatory networks in microbial genomes.

With the availability of genome sequences for hundreds of microbial genomes, it has become possible to address several questions from a comparative perspective to understand the structure and function of regulatory systems, at least in model organisms. Recent studies have focused on topological properties and the evolution of regulatory networks and their components. Our understanding of natura...

Microbial Evolution: Towards Resolving the Plasmid Paradox

Plasmids play a key role in bacterial evolution by providing bacteria with new and important functions, such as antibiotic resistance. New research shows how bacterial regulatory evolution can stabilize bacteria-plasmid associations and catalyze evolutionary innovation.
